News in the lineup of Uprising 2023
The sixteenth edition of the Uprising festival on Zlaté Piesky will be one of the strongest and you shouldn’t miss it!
The first announced names in the rich program already indicate that it will be an unforgettable year. Here you will find one of England’s biggest musical icons, the godfather of grime music named Dizzee Rascal. One of the most important singers in Jamaican history, Barrington Levy, popular rastaman from the UK – Macka B with his court band The Roots Ragga Band, as well as English veteran MC Brother Culture will also come. The world-famous American band New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble will also be present, and there will be no shortage of quality electronica, which will be covered by the popular Austrian production duo Camo & Krooked and the Ragga-Jungle pioneer Congo Natty himself.
Even Gleb does not miss the performances of Dizzee Rascal as his most favorite artist. For the first time, punk legend Slobodná Európa will perform at Uprising, and domestic names Akustika and Ripple will also be there.
Other world legends will also join the varied program and fans can also look forward to several exclusive Slovak premieres. The iconic reggae band Steel Pulse, led by singer and frontman David Hinds, is heading to Golden Sands this year. They still belong to the best in the world of Reggae music, both musically and lyrically, and is also the only British band to win a Grammy for the best reggae album of the year.
The Cimarons are the first ever reggae band to form in the UK (in 1967) and are also European pioneers of the genre. They collaborated with the biggest icons of Jamaican music such as Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals, Ken Boothe, Lee Scratch Perry and Alton Ellis. A lot of their work can be found in the archives of Trojan Records and the best, along with cover versions of early reggae and rocksteady classics from the 60s and 70s, will come to play at Zlaté piesky this year.
Another confirmed legendary name is well known in Slovakia and returning to the Uprising festival after 11 years. The stars of the British underground, Asian Dub Foundation, have created their own genre. Their unique combination of harsh jungle rhythms, dub bass lines, wild guitar and fast rapping has made them one of the liveliest bands in the world.
The cherry on top of this year’s line-up will be the French hit L’Entourloop with its energetic live show and guests N’Zeng, Troy Berkely and BlabberMouf. Their love of sound system culture and unique fusion of reggae and hip-hop, which they call “Banging Hip-Hop Inna Yardie Style”, is gaining attention and fans worldwide, as evidenced by hundreds of millions of streams across platforms. Their Slovak premiere will definitely worth it!
Among the new names in the program of Uprising 2023 you will also find Sena Dagadub, which is the latest project of the singer, who many of you know from the Hungarian band Iria Maffia. The new generation of reggae performers will be represented by Stinging Ray from China, or French Junior Roy, George Palmer and General Huge, who will perform at the festival’s Dub Club alongside one of the most famous and active European reggae producers, Irie Ites.
